St. John’s College High School is seeking a Director of the De La Salle Scholars Program to begin in the 2023-24 school year. Students are selected into the scholars program as part of their admission to grade nine and are in the top five percent of the admitted class. The program’s director implements programming at each grade level to provide a more robust intellectual experience for the students and to build community within the group. The director also acts as a mentor and college counselor throughout the student’s time at St. John’s.

The requirements and opportunities for De La Salle Scholars at St. John’s are as follows:

• Enroll in at least sixteen honors/AP classes over four years

• Field experiences in academic areas during the students’ 10th grade year

• Access to college search and application resources and opportunities such as a college tour and other related events and programming
• A freshmen and senior course only for scholars

• A senior independent study project

• Continued contact and relationship with the scholars director throughout four years and particularly during the college search and application process

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Meet with students regularly to assist in various needs and challenges during the school year
• Plan and facilitate events for each grade level, including 9th grade orientation

• Participate in admissions events for rising 9th graders

• Work with a committee of faculty who will support the scholars program for each grade

• Facilitate and guide the independent study project

• Advise all scholars regarding course registration

• Act as scholars’ college counselor

• Teach up to two academic classes

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Experience as a teacher and/or high school or college admissions counseling

• A definitive ability to be a self-starter

• The desire to develop relationships with students centered on mentorship and academic success

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong organizational ability and time management skills

• High level of enthusiasm and love of working with many different types of students and parents

• Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to plan events and meet deadlines

• A Masters degree with preference given to applicants with a strong academic pedigree
