Compensation and Benefits
The position is for the academic year starting in August 2023. A salary commensurate with experience, degree attainment, and qualifications is paid to employees annually. Full-time employees are eligible for our benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, disability, tuition remission, professional development/education funds, and the ability to participate in the school’s 403(b) retirement program.

St. Johns Country Day School seeks a Learning Specialist for the 2023-24 school year. The Learning Specialist’s primary responsibility is to support Lower, Middle, and Upper School students. The Learning Specialist will conduct screening and assessment at intervals throughout the school year, lead and manage small groups and 1-1 sessions, and work collaboratively with faculty and families to ensure students are progressing successfully.
Key Responsibilities
- Overtly support and act in accordance with the School’s mission and values
- Lead process for identifying, monitoring, and remediating students who learn differently (including advanced learners)
- Attend Student Support Meetings with faculty
- Work collaboratively with Division Heads to observe, assess, and work with students who have learning needs
- Work with families on at-home recommendations and in collaboration with outside agencies
- Define and deliver general and specialized instruction for students with learning needs (including, but not limited to 1:1 sessions, and small group instruction)
- Support Admissions by reading and providing insight into applications
- Educate faculty and parents on understanding learning differences
- Uphold professional standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion
- Appropriately carry out specific responsibilities as designated by the division (eg.duties)
- Honor the confidentiality of school and student information
- Communicate effectively with faculty, students, families, and colleagues
- Engage in self-reflection and professional development through goal setting, Professional Development opportunities, and ongoing dialog with Division Heads

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education
- Understanding of and experience in early intervention, assessments, and language acquisition
- Experience teaching and working with various age groups
- Strong knowledge of learning differences, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia, as well as a deep understanding of ADHD and Executive functioning
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s Degree, especially in educational therapy or Special Education
- Orton Gillingham Training
- Certified as Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P.)
- Experience working in a school
- Experience using assessment tools to gather information
- 3-5 years of teaching experience or experience working as a learning resource specialist
