The Caedmon School seeks engaging and creative candidates for a Kindergarten Associate teacher position in the 2023-2024 school year. In accordance with our Mission Statement, we seek candidates who cherish and love children. We ask you to model what is expected of our students ethically, academically, and socially; demonstrate an understanding and commitment to DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging); exhibit a passion for lifelong learning; possess the skills, knowledge, and confidence to be an enthusiastic innovator; and live with a deep sensitivity and respect for others.
We seek candidates who understand the role of teacher as a facilitator of student curiosity and questioning, as well as a desire to learn about (or are familiar with) the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori and the importance of a carefully prepared learning environment.
Classroom teaching.
The ideal candidate possesses an understanding of the cognitive, social, and emotional development of young, elementary aged children. They must be able to identify the strengths of each individual student and must have interest in educational approaches that position the student as the driver of their own learning based on student-centered inquiry.
Professional growth.
The ideal candidate is also a perpetual learner and models this for their students. They are open to trying new approaches to curriculum, pedagogy, and strategies for meeting student needs; are receptive to and seek feedback from colleagues; engage in thoughtful risk-taking in their teaching; and actively dig into workshops and discussions at faculty meetings and professional development events. They habitually reflect on the learning of each individual child and on their own teaching.
Community.
The ideal candidate brings a keen enthusiasm for working with children; participates wholeheartedly in the life of the faculty; and conducts themselves professionally and warmly. They engage often and clearly with colleagues about curriculum and student progress; freely share resources and teaching strategies; and brings fresh, innovative ideas to planning sessions. They strive to practice strong perspective-taking skills whenever collaborating with colleagues and families. Additionally, this individual will have opportunities to participate in family conferences and write progress reports.
