SUMMARY: Plans and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities designed to promote academic, social, and emotional growth for children with varying needs, successfully communicates with children, parents, and colleagues, and demonstrates a professional demeanor as well as an ongoing interest in personal growth and professional development.
ESSENTIAL TEACHING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Plan and implement a music curriculum that develops the children's skills in singing, movement, rhythm, listening, and playing of instruments, primarily Orff instruments and recorders.
- Teach the elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, tone color, form, and style from a variety of different cultures and historical periods.
- Lead and instruct extra-curricular student choral groups including a capella and junior choirs
- Assess and provide for individual differences among students.
- Evaluate student's progress within the curriculum, both verbally and in writing.
- Plan and implement performances for the schoolwide events and for the parent body.
- Collaborate and plan closely with the Lower Elementary music teacher
- Verbally communicate with children in a positive manner. Communicate clearly and honestly with parents, administrators, and colleagues about curriculum, children, and child development issues, both verbally and in writing.
- Supervise and coordinate the efforts of assistant teachers, interns, student teachers, and other adults in the classroom.
- Maintain and update the collection of student instruments
- Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Valid elementary-level state teaching credential preferred, including a minimum of Bachelor's degree and student teaching experience. A background in Music and Music instruction is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret written documents, professional literature, and material pertinent to elementary education, curriculum, and child development. Ability to write reports, academic and developmental evaluations, curricular plans, and letters to parents, and others. Ability to verbally articulate present information and respond to children, parents, colleagues, and administrators in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and child development. Ability to speak and write from a child-specific perspective.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; create and interpret graphs; compute ratios and percents.
TECHNICAL SKILLS: Ability to use simple tools and machines, such as copiers, laminators, and telephones. Ability to use a computer, minimum level requiring word processing programs to write reports, and compose letters.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and apply common sense in dealing with everyday and emergency situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and schedule form.
