The Cooper School is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator to teach Math for 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in our new Middle School program. Qualified candidates should be able to teach all levels of middle school mathematics, including algebra one and geometry, as we differentiate instruction.
Responsibilities include:
- Teach 4 Math classes of about 20 students in the context of an integrated curriculum.
- Work to ensure academic excellence by fully knowing students and adapting curricula to meet their needs
- Collaborate in the design and implementation of an integrated curriculum
- Collaborate with peers and specialists to engage students in deep, interdisciplinary project work
- Keep careful anecdotal and assessment records and use them to write accurate, comprehensive student reports
- Act as an adviser to a group of Middle School students
- Commit to the academic and social mission of The Cooper School, which requires differentiation
- Contribute to student life by engaging in afterschool clubs and other co-curricular activities.
- Participate in Admissions Open House and other school events as requested by the Director of Admissions or the Head of School.
- Participate fully in the active and rich life of The Cooper School
- Engage in ongoing communication with parents/guardians
- Perform other duties assigned

The Math Teacher will further this mission by delivering high-quality and engaging middle years math lessons. Candidates should have experience with teaching through inquiry, constructivism, choice, and collaborative learning. Candidates should be able to demonstrate flexibility, creativity, enthusiasm, professionalism, and an understanding of the unique needs of Middle School students. Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in math, math education, or a related field is mandatory.
- A minimum of two years of middle school teaching experience is mandatory.
- Must possess the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and the broader community
- Must possess a desire and willingness to grow professionally and work as part of a team.
