The mission of the Diener School is to teach through experience, stimulate academically, prepare socially, and create a successful educational journey that motivates minds and inspires capabilities for a lifetime.

We are currently seeking a Special Education Lead Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.

Our students have a wide range of abilities. Many of them have several challenges that impact learning including:

• Learning Disabilities
• ADD or ADHD
• Language Delays (expressive, receptive, and processing)
• Sensory Processing Disorders
• Executive Functioning Challenges
• Social Pragmatic and Social Communication Disorder

Job responsibilities include:

• Collaborate with teaching partner in the areas of classroom design, classroom management
• Responsible for multi-sensory lesson planning and implementation, report writing, and data gathering
• Communication and collaboration with administration, staff, therapists, and families
• Demonstrate professional flexibility, a growth mindset, optimism, and a sense of humor
• Demonstrate initiative, confidence, and joy in aspects of work and in front of teaching partner, other colleagues, parents, and students
• Demonstrate an ability and willingness to collaborate with teaching partner
• Implementing behavioral programs and sensory diets
• Frequently discuss and reflect on teaching partnership as it relates to professional work and professional growth
• Demonstrate a commitment to team work
• Communicate effectively and efficiently with teaching partner on all aspects of the position, including student progress and information

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or Education. Master's degree is preferred.

About The Diener School

The Diener School provides a developmental, educational, and therapeutic environment for students requiring smaller class sizes and individualized attention. Students will learn experientially, with much repetition, through a variety of multi-sensory, collaborative approaches. The cornerstone of The Diener School, the "Diener Pyramid of Learning for the Whole Child", provides our students with a holistic approach that promotes academics, cognitive functions, constructive social, language and sensory experiences and real life organizational skills. The faculty, in concert with experts in all disciplines will work collaboratively to create a nurturing yet challenging environment empowering children to think independently and have a strong sense of self and spirit. The Diener School's academic curriculum follows the Maryland State Voluntary Curriculum. Our therapeutic curriculum includes social skills, speech and language, sensory, movement and the arts. The Diener School believes strongly in the connection between movement and learning. During our fitness classes, our fitness instructor emphasize skills such as visual motor coordination, motor planning, sensory activities and hand-ey...e coordination, through creative and fun activities! Our movement also includes sports skills such as lacrosse, t-ball, soccer, and basketball. Our holistic curriculum incorporates all of the arts to provide our students the opportunities for creativity and reflection. Students participate in weekly art classes which emphasize fine arts and art history. We seamlessly integrate our therapeutic strategies within this curriculum. Our therapists and academic tutors meet with teachers regularly to discuss academic goals, themes and lessons. Therapists are in classrooms infusing sensory, language and motor exercises within our academic periods. Our classrooms are small and have a full time special education teacher and full time assistant in each room.
