The Ellis School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is seeking a Director of Academic Support for the 2024–2025 school year. This is a year-round, full-time position. Ellis is the only all-girls school in Pittsburgh serving students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12, with a mission of educating girls and young women to become bold, authentic, intellectually vibrant changemakers. The School currently serves approximately 400 students evenly distributed across three divisions.
The Director of Academic Support is responsible for all elements of the learning support program at the School and supervises the academic support department. The Director of Academic Support reports directly to the Assistant Head of School.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or higher in Education or a related field
At least 5 years of experience working in a school setting, ideally in a student support role or capacity
Demonstrated experience leading or working with an academic support team
Proven track record of timely, clear communication
The Director of Academic Support will:
Read and interpret educational and neuro-psychological testing reports and share with faculty, admissions, and student support personnel
Write individual learning profiles that will target students’ specific curricular/learning needs, including recommended accommodations
Provide one-on-one and small-group support/instruction for students as needed
Make regular assessments of student achievement and progress
Ensure regular communication with families and faculty on student achievement and progress
Attend Parent-Teacher Conferences to discuss student progress with parents, if required
Counsel families on learning support and assessment accommodations
Support teaching staff by offering resources, assistance, advice, and training to enable faculty to better meet the needs of all learners
Develop and maintain communication and documentation protocols related to learning support
Assume an active role in Student Resource Team (SRT) meetings.
In consultation with SRT, coordinate services for students with learning differences:
Identifies students who need psycho-educational evaluations
Coordinates special in-school testing of standardized tests for accommodated students
Oversees implementation of accommodations for students during school-based test administrations
Coordinate the use of external tutors and learning specialists
Act as the liaison with the Intermediate Unit and schedule testing as needed
Perform other duties as determined by the Assistant Head of School.
