Position Summary:
The Foote School seeks a talented, energetic individual to join its faculty as a full time middle school (grades 7-9) music teacher. Foote’s middle school aims to endow students with timeless values while providing the timely experiences that will prepare them to learn, lead, and grow in the 21st century. Music and the arts have a key role in this experience. One of the primary goals of arts instruction at the Foote School is to develop and expand children's natural abilities of perception, interpretation, and appreciation of the forms, sounds, and language of creativity. Our curriculum is designed to encourage a positive attitude and, perhaps, a lifelong interest in the arts.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in music instruction and should demonstrate passion for the subject along with flexibility, creativity, and a deep interest in young people.
Responsibilities:
- Present an inspiring and engaging curriculum that builds students’ understanding of music and extends to instrumental instruction.
- Collaborate with fellow music teachers and other faculty members to present several all-school assemblies and events during the year.
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to develop and deliver interdisciplinary projects.
- Serve as director of and faculty advisor to the middle school chorus.
- Serve as Middle School advisor.
- Serve on faculty committees.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in music education; master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 - 5 years experience teaching this age group.
- Training in the Kodály or Orff methods and solfege instruction is preferred.
- Mastery of an instrument such as piano or guitar for accompaniment in performances.
- Experience in teaching both individuals and groups of students in this age group.
- Experience with integrating technology into a music curriculum.
- An appreciation for independent school education and the middle school years.
- Commitment to professional growth and innovative thinking.
- Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
- Strong personal and interpersonal skills.
