The Frederick Gunn School College Counseling Office seeks a like-minded educator to join our team. Reporting to the Dean of College Counseling, the Assistant/Associate Director will guide students and families through every aspect of the college search and application process. We are looking for someone who loves working with adolescents, brings a healthy mix of humor and humility to their work, and thrives in a collaborative, student-centered environment.
This is a 12-month administrative faculty position, which includes responsibilities that are integral to boarding school life. Housing may be available.
Anticipated Start Date: August 2025
Specific responsibilities for this position include (but are not limited to):
Advise and support approximately 35 seniors and their families through all phases of the college planning process
Educate students and parents about colleges, admission strategies, trends, and standardized testing
Empower students to engage in thoughtful self-reflection and prioritize fit in the college search
Help plan and lead student and parent programming sponsored by the College Counseling Office
Teach assigned sections of College Seminar for juniors and seniors
Write personalized and comprehensive counselor profiles for each assigned counselee
Develop and expand upon long-term relationships with colleges and universities, including meeting with college admissions representatives who visit campus, and traveling to college campuses and professional conferences
Stay informed on current issues and trends in college admission, higher education, testing, as well as keeping up-to-date about specific colleges and participating in local and national professional organizations
Assist testing coordinator in administering all standardized testing as needed
Additional duties include serving as a student advisor, residential life responsibilities (if living in on-campus housing) and contributing to two seasons of afternoon co-curricular programming (see below)

In addition to responsibilities in the College Counseling Office, the ideal candidate will bring a high level of expertise and leadership to one of the school’s competitive co-curricular programs (e.g., soccer, baseball).
