The Independent Day School in Middlefield, CT is seeking an experienced middle school STEM teacher for the 2023-24 school year. Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Promote a positive classroom environment and demonstrate strong classroom management skills in order to create and maintain a learning environment that ensures high levels of learning for all students.
- Effectively plan and implement creative, high quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction that encourages students to be actively engaged in the learning process and results in high-end learning for all students.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a wide variety of students with different learning styles as well as different areas of strength and weakness. Incorporate individualized instructional accommodations as directed.
- Utilize assessment and evaluations to guide instructional decisions; maintain accurate, up-to-date records and communicate results to students, parents, and appropriate others in a timely manner with regard to student progress and performance.
- Collaborate, coordinate, and communicate with students, parents, colleagues, and administrators to ensure the highest level of learning for all students.
- Serve as a Middle School adviser and complete all activities and assignments related to this role.
- Communicate the progress and growth of a student in narrative form, using language that is clear and thoughtful, and follows common grammatical expectations.
- Work diligently and promptly to maintain positive and productive home-school communication and strong working relationships with parents.
- Perform professional duties efficiently, manage resources effectively, and meet deadlines set by the school.
- Participate in and support the school’s admissions, development and community events and fulfill expectations for participation in school activities beyond the classroom.
- Invest in one’s own professional learning and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement of teaching practice.
- Participate as an active, engaged member of the whole school community, abiding by the Faculty Code of Conduct, and reaching across classroom and divisional boundaries to create an enriching, exceptional, synchronized school experience for IDS students.
- Perform other duties as assigned. These duties include but are not limited to, student advising, recess duty, lunch duty, dismissal duty, weekend and evening events, chaperone duty, student supervision, service projects, schoolwide events, etc.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in education or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of successful science teaching experience
- Familiarity with NGSS and Math Standards
- Proficiency with classroom technology including Google Classroom
- Demonstrated commitment and experience with culturally responsive teaching practices
- Excellent oral, written, and presentational skills
- Ability to work as a team member
- Independent school experience preferred
- Ability to coach middle school sport(s) preferred
