Overview
The Kew-Forest School is looking for a part-time Kindergarten Associate Teacher (8:30 - 1:30, Monday - Friday) for the 2024-2025 school year. The Kindergarten Associate Teacher, working in a supportive role, is a person who is interested in pursuing a career in education and has prior classroom experience, preferably in Kindergarten. The Kindergarten Associate Teacher is partnered with a Lead Teacher, who plays a vital role in helping the Associate develop their teaching skills. By observing and working with our experienced teachers and participating in the life of the school, our associates gain valuable experience and opportunities to develop their own philosophy and teaching style.
The Kew-Forest School, a PS-12 co-educational day school founded in 1918 in Forest Hills, NY, is embarking on an exciting new chapter as it enters its 107th year of operation. The School is in the process of creating a campus master plan that will entail examining and making improvements to its current facilities, enhancing our students’ experience, and providing incredible growth, leadership, and professional development opportunities for our faculty. The Kew-Forest School recently became an International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate school for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Program (MYP). The individual who fills this position must be energetic, creative, imaginative, and thoughtful in their approach to curriculum and pedagogy. They will contribute to the Kindergarten program as the School enters its era of Kew-Forest 2.0.
Responsibilities
The role of the Kindergarten Associate Teacher is a collaborative one. While the Lead Teacher shoulders primary responsibility for a class, both teachers are expected to plan together to deliver whole- and small-group instruction across content areas. The Associate Teacher participates actively in teaching and assessment, supports parent-teacher conferences and report-writing, and substitutes for the Lead Teacher as necessary. Associate Teachers meet regularly with their cooperating Lead Teacher and a designated Mentor Teacher, both as a group and individually.
The Ideal Candidate
In hiring our Associate Teachers, we seek responsible, mature, nurturing, enthusiastic, and dedicated people with a strong desire to teach. Our Associate Teachers hold a B.A. degree and typically have or are working toward their teaching credential or Master’s degree. Prior classroom experience is desired.
Salary Range
$22,000
