ABOUT MASTERS:
The Masters School (www.mastersny.org) is a premier, independent day and boarding school that engages 5th – 12th grade students with a challenging academic program in a welcoming learning environment. Located on 96 picturesque acres overlooking the Hudson River, The Masters School community takes advantage of both its access to the tri-state area and its proximity to the rich cultural and educational magnet that is New York City. Students benefit from the resources, diversity and activities of Masters 7-day campus and accessible, talented faculty and staff. From our exceptional academics and outstanding visual and performing arts program to our championship athletic teams, the Masters learning experience prepares students for success in college, career and life.
MISSION AND BELIEFS STATEMENT:
The Masters School celebrates active participation, deep understanding, and meaningful connection. A community of diverse individuals, we gather to learn, to strive, to dare, to do – to be a power for good in the world.
In addition, The Masters School seeks employees committed to the work of advancing equity in the school community and beyond. A community of diverse individuals, we celebrate both our differences and our similarities, and we embrace a broad definition of diversity that includes but is not limited to age, race, ethnicity, gender, ability, religion, sexual identity and socioeconomic status. Masters seeks diverse candidates to serve our student body, and we expect all employees to engage in the work of inclusion as an important aspect of working in a school setting.
SUMMARY:
The Masters School's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center is a 20,000-square-foot facility housing five dedicated fabrication spaces where students work with woodworking, metal fabrication, digital electronics, computerized embroidery, CNC operations, 3D printing, and more. It is an exceptional space, and the work that happens inside it reflects that.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, hands-on educator to join the IEC team. In this role, you will teach courses centered on entrepreneurship and innovation, coach students through the process of developing and presenting their ideas, and contribute to our Open IEC afterschool program — a drop-in space where students build, fabricate, and create. We are looking for someone who is energized by the process of making, who can meet students where they are, and who is ready to step into an active, dynamic space and contribute something real to it.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are open to candidates from a range of backgrounds. What matters most is the combination of skills, experience, and attitude you bring to the work. Strong candidates will bring experience or demonstrated ability in several of the following areas:
Entrepreneurship and venture thinking — You understand what it takes to develop an idea, test it, and bring it to life. You've done it yourself, taught it, or both.
Making and fabrication — You know your way around a workshop, a makerspace, or a fabrication environment. You can teach students to use tools safely and creatively.
Curriculum development — You've built courses or learning experiences from scratch and know how to design for real engagement, not just compliance.
Presentation and communication coaching — You're a strong communicator yourself, and you know how to help students find their voice and stand confidently in front of an audience.
A bias toward action — You start things. You try things. You're energized by the process of creating, even when it doesn't go perfectly.
You don't need to be an expert in all of these areas. But you should be genuinely curious about the ones where you're still growing.
In this role, you will:
Teach two or three sections per semester of course offerings in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, with a primary focus on entrepreneurship, design thinking, and the development and communication of ideas
Coach students through pitching and presenting their work — from early-stage concepts to confident, polished delivery
Work with the IEC team to support students during our Open IEC afterschool program as they build, prototype, and explore using traditional and digital fabrication tools
Work closely with the Director of Innovation, Engineering and Computer Science to develop and implement curriculum, assess progress, and pursue departmental goals
Contribute to other areas of school life via academic, residential, and/or co-curricular programs
Assist with clear communication of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center programs and develop avenues for sharing exceptional learning experiences with the broader school community
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in a related field
Commitment to student-centered, activity- and problem-based learning
Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competency
Experience or demonstrated interest in one or more of the following: entrepreneurship and venture thinking, making and fabrication, or curriculum development
Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to model and coach confident public speaking
Experience writing and building curriculum preferred
Familiarity with makerspaces or fabrication environments preferred
Devotion to continued learning and development and staying current with educational and technological research and best practices
You don't need to be an expert in every area — but you should be genuinely curious about the ones where you're still growing
Ability to view challenges and problems as opportunities for growth and transformation
Compassion, integrity, and open-mindedness in all interactions
Collegiality, approachability, flexibility, and adaptability
HOW TO APPLY:
To apply, please submit a letter of interest, explaining why you would succeed in this position, your resume, and three references via email to facultycareers@mastersny.org (Adobe® PDF format preferred) and include “IEC Teacher" in the subject line.
