The Shipley School is seeking an experienced Assistant/Associate Director of Athletics to support the Director of Athletics in leading and managing the athletics department, beginning July 1, 2025. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, this position will share responsibility for coordinating, directing, and implementing all athletic programs for students in grades 6-12. Specific shared responsibilities may include but are not limited to, supporting an engaged and responsive coaching staff, providing oversight of communications and sports information, and coordinating various departmental logistics. As a student-centered educator, the Assistant/Associate Director of Athletics will work collaboratively with the department's coaching staff, students, and other community members to create positive experiences for a wide range of student-athletes.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate with the Communications Department to promote Shipley Athletics both internally and externally;
Provide administrative and fiscal management support for all athletic teams and events;
Support management of the Shipley Athletics program;
Organize and maintain the fields and gym schedules
Manage/Coordinate all internal camps/clinics/off season practice schedules;
Schedule Middle School contests and assist in Upper School scheduling
Oversight and coordination of transportation needs and logistics
Assist in coordinating all departmental special events;
Hiring, mentoring, and evaluating of the external coaching staff; spearheading onboarding of new coaches
Chair of the Student Athletics Committee
Support Admissions and Advancement initiatives and attend events as needed;
Attend FSL league meetings and training opportunities, when necessary;
Onsite administrator for regular season contests and playoff events
Coach a sport as assigned by the Athletic Director
Supervision and coordination of overnight athletic trips i.e. Spring break, Easterns
Organize and coordinate weekly athletics email to the Athletics Staff
Other duties to be assigned by the Director of Athletics
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required;
A minimum of 3 years of relevant coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level;
Relevant experience in athletic administration in an educational setting, preferably at an independent school;
Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities;
Highly developed communication skills with the ability to effectively manage interpersonal conflicts;
A team-oriented spirit and the ability to connect meaningfully with students throughout our diverse community;
Skilled in Microsoft office suite; Google Suite and Blackbaud systems
