The Stony Brook School seeks a talented, mission-aligned part-time faculty member to join our Visual Arts Department. . This role will focus on our ceramics program, teaching one section of Ceramics I and two sections of Ceramics II during the upcoming spring semester. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ceramics, including experience with wheel-thrown work.
Founded in 1922, The Stony Brook School is a co-ed Christian college-prep boarding and day school for grades 7-12 on a 55-acre campus on Long Island's North Shore. We unite academic rigor with authentic Christian faith in a diverse, global community.
All candidates should have a demonstrable Christian commitment and an educational philosophy that is consistent with The Stony Brook School's mission..
The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor's of Art or Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Visual Arts, Arts Education, or a related field (master's degree strongly preferred)
Demonstrated growth mindset and eagerness to develop as a teacher, mentor, and colleague
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Eagerness to serve in a faith-based learning environment that emphasizes faithful Christian scholarship and character formation
Proficiency with technology and a desire to incorporate technology into the classroom
Experience with ceramics, including wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques, along with familiarity in studio processes such as glazing, kiln loading/firing, and safe, effective ceramics classroom management
Desire to contribute to various aspects of school life (advisor, dorm parent, coach, club sponsor)
