The Town School is a 112-year-old, coeducational Nursery through 8th Grade school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. We now seek an experienced educator to serve as Assistant Head of our newly consolidated Lower and Nursery School. Reporting to the Head of Lower School and Nursery, the new appointee will build on our school’s history of excellence and collaborate with us on future possibilities.The Salary Range for this position is $125,000-$145,000
Responsibilities
Faculty Supervision and Development
Mentor and coach teachers on pedagogy, classroom management, and curriculum delivery
Attend curriculum meetings to strengthen vertical alignment across the division and into Middle School
Oversee Associate Teacher program and Co-Directors
Support onboarding and ongoing development for new faculty, cultivating alignment with the school’s standards and values
Conduct regular classroom observations and provide actionable feedback and accountability to promote teaching excellence
Ensure teachers have resources they need to create an inclusive and engaging 21st century learning environment
Support oversight of specialist teachers
Support Division Head in hiring process
Student Support
Address behavioral concerns using age-appropriate, restorative practices that promote social-emotional growth and communicate with families
Partner with learning specialists, psychologists, and faculty to ensure holistic development for all students
Foster a culture of inclusion, belonging, and mutual respect
Administrative Oversight & Community Engagement
Help organize community events such as curriculum nights, parent workshops, and other opportunities to engage families in the educational process
Help support admissions process in division including reading files and supporting with assessments
Act as the Division Head’s representative during absences, ensuring continuity of leadership
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field required; a master’s degree preferred
At least five years of teaching or administrative experience, with expertise in early childhood and elementary education
Demonstrated ability to lead professional learning, implemented sustained accountability metrics, and managed operational responsibilities
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills to engage effectively with students, families, and staff
Demonstrated commitment to equity, and supportive of Town’s Statement on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; demonstrated personal growth and accomplishment in this area preferred
Personal characteristics of an outstanding professional: warmth, tact, discernment, superb communication and organization skills, high energy and a good sense of humor
