Trinity School, a co-educational K-12 institution located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, seeks a Swim Instructor/Head Lifeguard beginning September 1, 2025.
The Swim Instructor will teach K-4 swimming and reports to the Physical Education Department Head. As the Head Lifeguard, this person reports to the Director of Aquatics. As a member of the lifeguard staff, this person is primarily responsible for the safety and well-being of all patrons within the pool area during Swim Club and Physical Education and Fitness classes as well as during Athletic and Special Events.
The successful candidate will possess:
A dedication to improving the health and well-being of their students through developmentally appropriate instruction;
A deep knowledge of fundamental movement skills and the ability to communicate this knowledge in a fun, positive, and motivating manner;
Experience and confidence in teaching swim to Lower School students;
Highly effective classroom management skills that maintain a safe learning environment;
The ability to work collaboratively and generously with colleagues across divisions;
A current and valid Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED, WSI, and Lifeguard Management certifications;
Strong communication, organizational, time management, and follow-up skills;
High standards of customer service as well as high levels of enthusiasm and motivation. Must maintain a level of physical fitness that allows for the performance of lifeguard duties in an efficient manner.
Intellectual curiosity and a commitment to ongoing professional development; and
Excellent interpersonal skills, an adaptable attitude, and a sense of humor.
Duties will include:
Teach two Kindergarten-Grade 4 swim classes;
Assisting with the recruitment and testing of lifeguards;
Supervising the female locker room;
Facilitating emergency management and skills drills;
Preparing required paperwork including accident/incident reports, timesheets, and pool logs; and
Attending staff meetings and in-house trainings.
Qualifications for the role include:
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent lifeguarding and swim instruction experience (a minimum of three years of experience required)
Prior experience working with Lower School students in a physical education environment
