University High School of Indiana seeks an Assistant Director of College Counseling for a full-time position beginning with the 2023-24 school year. University is a vibrant and dynamic community of 350 students and 50 faculty and staff who work together daily in service of the school’s mission “to expand the hearts and minds of students and to nurture excellence through academic, creative, and physical achievement.” The college acceptance list of the last ten years includes a variety of schools – from large state research universities to highly selective schools to small liberal arts colleges. The 94 seniors in the Class of 2022 attended 50 different schools and received $21.7M in merit awards. On average, 95% of University students attend their first-choice school.
Under the Director of College Counseling, the Assistant Director will participate in all aspects of the department, including developing programming for all grade levels, representing University to colleges and college representatives, holding individual meetings with students and families, and continuing relationships with our young alumni throughout their college years. The ideal candidate will have a passion for high school students, a well-rounded approach to the college search process that supports students toward matriculation to best-fit schools, a desire to collaborate with other members of the faculty and staff, and a willingness to be involved at University beyond the classroom. They will also serve on school committees and support the educational system of the school as a whole. Additionally, all faculty and staff members at University High School serve as mentors to students in the school-wide mentoring program.
Please note: this is not a guidance or school counselor position. While some of those skills may be related, the focus of College Counseling at University is to guide and advise students throughout the college application process. Course registration, and mental and emotional health are primarily handled through other avenues of the school.

- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s or other advanced degree preferred
- Experience in college counseling or guidance strongly preferred
- Willingness to mentor required; mentoring experience preferred
- Commitment to the school’s core values of diversity, excellence, personal responsibility, stewardship, creativity, and mutual respect, support, and trust required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
- Facility with technology required; experience with Naviance, Scoir, and other college application software preferred
- Ability to collaborate with, or teach in, other departments may also be considered
- Background check and current authorization to be employed in the U.S. required
