Position Summary: The Music teacher will have dual roles in working with our community of learners. This positions involves teaching general music to our PK -1st grade students and teaching strings to our 2nd - 6th grade students.
Specific Duties Include:
Responsible for creating and implementing General Music lesson plans and creating and directing music performances for grades PK-1
Responsible for teaching string instruments, violin, viola, cello, and string bass for grades 02 - 06
Assess students in daily performance
Assist students in performance opportunities
Coordinate and assist other performances for events such as the Open House for Prospective Students, Grandparents’ Day, and Dance Recital
Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding cross-curricular learning and rehearsing for weekly assemblies
Have a basic understanding of sound systems, microphones, and monitors for assemblies and performances
Collaborate with other Woodward North music teachers concerning classroom- and performance-related issues, including accompanying and assisting with directing
Have a basic understanding of sound systems, microphones, and monitors for assemblies and performances
Shared Responsibility for running the sound system for various programs, including weekly assemblies and other programs
Shared Responsibility for maintaining the costumes and props room
Other duties as assigned
Required Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents, including music
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and teachers
Implement instructions furnished in written or oral form
Must demonstrate competency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite, to write music utilizing a personal computer and Finale software, and to operate a SmartBoard
Ability to talk, sing, listen, and demonstrate rhythmical movement for varying periods of time
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Bachelor of Music Education with Orchestral Emphasis or Bachelor of Music degree with a Teaching Certificate and orchestral experience, and be able to show proof of successful general music and orchestral teaching experience
Proficient in playing and teaching string instruments, violin, viola, cello, and string bass to students through grade level 6
Independent school experience preferred but not required
The Orchestra/General Music Teacher, Woodward North position is a exempt, 10-month position.
