JOB PURPOSE
Teachers at AIS are innovators and leaders who have a passion for working with students in a multicultural community and are always seeking new ways to personalize learning. With an interdisciplinary focus, AIS teachers also integrate innovative learning strategies while working with a diverse student population.
This is a part-time position (20 hours per week) working as a Science Lab Technician Assistant to students in grades 6-12, beginning August 1, 2022.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preparing the equipment and chemicals needed for MYP classes as long as sufficient notice was provided in writing through lab logger.
- Cleans up hazardous spills, such as mercury and acids and bases and administers. first aid related to chemical accidents as required.
- Maintains Chemical Storage standards.
- Provide the SDS and or CLEAPPS cards for the chemicals requested as part of the lab prep work.
- Maintains and repairs lab equipment such as microscopes and ray boxes.
- Properly sterilizes equipment and cleans glassware using the appropriate solvents.
- Returning equipment in a serviceable and clean condition to its allocated storage.
- Informing the head of science of any short notice requests.
- Assist in laboratory classes helping with equipment use and safety.
- Available to co-teach as needed in the MYP classes, and assists MYP Science field trips.
- Provide cover for MYP classes as needed.
- Assisting with the annual chemical inventory check and report to the head of science.
- Assisting with the annual valuable equipment inventory check in the biology and physics laboratories.
- Maintaining the basic equipment stocks in each science classroom throughout the school year. Work with teachers to maintain classroom organization and cleanliness.
- Assisting teaching in implementing the Interdisciplinary Learning experiences between Science and other subjects.
- Assist with the Middle School Science Olympiad, other individualized projects in MYP (ex: Personal project, Innovators, etc.).
- Undergo professional development training sessions as required.
Ideal candidates will have experience with a range of pedagogical approaches and will be excited by the opportunity to teach a diverse student body in an inquisitive and inquiry-based environment. The ideal candidate has demonstrated effective equitable and inclusive practices within and outside the classroom. A passion for working with adolescent learners, flexible attitude, commitment to lifelong learning, and a sense of humor are essential.
REQUIREMENTS
- A relevant Bachelor’s degree, equivalent, or in pursuit of a relevant Bachelor’s with two years completed
- The successful candidate should have a passion for education and extensive experience teaching science
- Enthusiastic about teaching within a multicultural and multilingual environment. Flexibility of approach and a collaborative style are essential.
- A commitment to equity and inclusion, inquiry and experiential based pedagogy is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
- Experience of teaching IB MYP and IBDP is desirable, but good applicants with other curriculum experience are also welcome to apply.
