Edmund Burke School, located in Washington, D.C., seeks a creative, organized, and energetic part time (50%) Librarian, who loves working with young people, to serve as a member of its faculty beginning in the fall of 2022. The ideal candidate would have library experience, a degree in the field, and be committed to ongoing professional development.
The Burke Library is at the heart of our effort to put students in charge of their own learning. In support of this, the collection , both print and digital, reflects and extends the curriculum and represents the belief that intellectual freedom and access to information are prerequisites to effective and responsible citizenship.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Selects and purchases all library materials-digital and print and evaluates the budget annually
- Catalogs all library materials as well as cameras for the Art Department in Alexandria 8.0 software
- Annually evaluates Digital Resources and purchases them
- Maintains the Library Resources Web page curating digital resources, instructions and access links
- Maintains the automated circulation system of the library (Alexandria 8.0 software)-adding and removing students, checking out materials, sending overdue notices, replacing items when lost
- Evaluates the currency, quality, depth and breadth of the collection both print and digital with input from faculty and students
- Maintains the physical space of the library-shelving books, making and updating displays, scheduling library use, creating an open and welcoming space in the center of the school
- Responds to faculty and student requests for materials and research instruction
Education/Experience:
- Masters degree in library science

- Familiarity with independent schools and the progressive philosophy is a plus
