Epiphany School is currently accepting applications for a Human Resources Generalist
The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) serves as a strategic partner to the school’s leadership team and the Business Office, collaborating closely to ensure that our human resources programs and initiatives are effective, efficient, and aligned to the Epiphany School strategic initiatives. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the employee experience and compliance including, but not limited to recruiting and onboarding, developing and retaining talent, payroll & benefits, compensation, leave management and employee relations. This is a full-time position that reports to the Director of Finance and Operations.
This is a full-time fiscal year position. Work hours are Monday – Friday, generally 8am – 4pm.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Strategy & Planning:
- Engage as a strategic partner to the Head of School and Leadership Team
- Develop and implement best practices across systems, policies and programs
- Establish short- and long-range objectives that align with the school’s strategic plans and initiatives.
Recruiting & Retention:
- Manage and oversee recruiting processes for all open positions including job postings, screening candidates, setting up interviews and completing references
- Organize the hiring process and support hiring managers in fulfilling their role.
- Maintain Applicant Tracking System
- Responsible for onboarding and offboarding all employees.
- Manage and improve new employee orientation programs to foster a positive onboarding experience.
Employee Development
- Improve and update Performance Management Program
- Partner with Leadership Team to support employee performance review process
- Support and coach supervisors on performance management tactics and if needed, to resolve employee performance concerns.
Payroll, Benefits Administration, Leave Management, and Compensation
- Prepare monthly and biweekly payroll journal entries to accounting system
- Perform payroll audit requirements on an annual basis
- Act as primary employee contact; respond to employee questions regarding payroll
- Act as primary contact for insurance brokers and carriers and responsible for all employee communication regarding benefits.
- Manage benefits including enrollment and administration of employee health, dental and retirement benefit plans;
- Submit pension contributions for 403b deductions and match
- Manage leave of absence process, including communicating with employees on the process, ensuring supervisor approval, calculating pay rate changes and updating written agreements
- Manage all employee leave requests including LOA and leave-related processes.
- Work with DFO and Head of School in preparing employment agreements for new and returning personnel
Compliance and Risk:
- Ensure the school’s hiring processes, employee handbook, and personnel records are conducted using lawful and best practice methods.
- Maintain employee personnel files and employment records.
- Respond to and manage state unemployment notices
- Respond to employment verification requests
- Manage required employee trainings to ensure compliance with state and Federal requirements and best practice
- Manage all vendor contracts related to HR services and solutions.
- Monitor human resource management legislation, trends and best practices to ensure Epiphany School is following current industry processes and procedures;
Secondary Responsibilities
- Provide lunch and recess coverage and arrival and dismissal duties.
- Participate in professional learning opportunities at Epiphany School and in the greater education community.
- Participate in school admission, development, and community events.
- Participate in committees and provide input on school decisions.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business and/or significant relevant experience.
- Minimum of five years of human resources and payroll experience of a similarly sized and resourced organization. Experience in Non-profit and/or education preferred, but not required.
- Excellent cultural competency, willing and able to excel to work with multiple groups of people from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge and/or experience with fund accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable desired but not required.
- Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with faculty, administration, and trustees.
- Impeccable verbal & written communication skills; strong presentation skills
- Commitment to professionalism and ability to work with detailed information with a high degree of accuracy and ability to handle difficult conversations with grace, tact, and resolve.
- Knowledge and experience with benefit administration, labor law and other human resource management issues
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to easily transition from task to task
- Strong comfort with technology including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, HR information systems, payroll systems, benefits administration systems
