Position Summary:
At Kent’s Academic Resource Center (ARC), students can set their own goals, identify their academic priorities, and seek help when questions arise. The ideal candidate for this position will provide support with global learning skills, including effective strategies for notetaking, studying, and time management. Located in the library, the ARC is open during the academic day and study hall. Students can schedule an appointment, or they may be referred for required visits.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Work with students on an assigned or drop-in basis to support the development of organizational and executive function skills.
- Write summarized notes for student’s teachers and advisor after each meeting and term-end comments for families three times a year.
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and advisors to identify student needs and strategies to address these needs.
- Communicate major points from each meeting for a student to carry forward. Follow up with students regarding scheduled appointments, expectations, and weekly planning.
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of resources to aid student learning and develop strategies to drive increased, meaningful use of the ARC.
- Participate in and develop professional development experiences that support innovative learning practices and student growth.
- Perform other duties as needed and assigned.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in education (literacy in mathematics or sciences is preferred), or related field is preferred. The ideal candidate will:
- Interact with students and colleagues in a positive, encouraging manner when questions arise; patience, sensitivity, and humor are a must!
- Have experience supporting the development of executive function and organizational skills.
- Work confidently and professionally with the student, faculty, and parent constituencies of the School.
- Understand the culture of the School and contribute positively to it, promoting the academic program and atmosphere of the ARC and the School.
- Be flexible within a boarding school schedule.
Physical Requirements:
- The physical demands listed below are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job:
- Must be able to work in an office environment.
- Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Requires substantial movement (motions) of wrists, hands, and fingers with keyboard use.
- Ability to use visual display.
- Ability to lift and transport up to 10 lbs. without assistance.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test.
- Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
- Work is performed on a smoke-free campus.
