ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides direct/indirect service to students enrolled in Academic Services, grades 5 – 12
- Students in Academic Services have a documented learning challenge
- Provides on-going case management for all students eligible for academic services
- Observes students, reviews school records, collects data, and makes referrals for evaluations, when appropriate
- Checks progress reports and monitors students’ grades and missing assignments
- Generates an individualized Student Support Plan for each eligible student that reflects the student’s strengths, deficits, and reasonable accommodations
- Meets with parents and students to review psychoeducational evaluation and reasonable accommodations provided by Laguna
- Consults with teachers, administrators, counselors, and advisors to coordinate student support as needed
- Strategizes differentiation and implementation of accommodations within the classroom
- Organizes and implements educational opportunities
- Professional development for faculty
- Workshops and seminars for families
- Initiates and organizes weekly Student Support Team meetings
- With Division Heads, Dean of Student Life, School Guidance Counselor, DEI Coordinator
- Sends out SOC alerts to faculty
- Follow-ups with posting of Official Notes
- Collaborates and meets with admissions team
- Reads applicants’ psychoeducational evaluations and admission files
- Meets with applicants and their families
- Collaborates with college counselors
- Consults with registrar to consider individual student needs when scheduling classes as well as graduation requirements
- Refers families to community resources as needed
- Recommends tutors and maintains a tutor list
- Maintains a list of clinicians who administer educational testing
- Submits applications for accommodations and maintains documentation for the College Board and ACT
- Coordinates the accommodations and resources needed for SAT, AP, and ACT exams
- Schedules and trains proctors
- Proctors exams as needed
- Obtains laptops, printers, calculators
- Attends faculty meetings
- Attends both Middle and Upper School Meetings
- Attends grade-level meetings when SOCs are on the agenda
- Attends Chair meetings
- Supervises the Learning Center and the Assistant positions
- Initiates weekly department meeting
- Discuss students of concern
- Develop infrastructure for study halls
- Discuss best practices for supporting student progress
- Supervises Academic Services budget
- Also includes requests from Lower School
- Reports to the Division Heads
- Collaborates with the Learning Specialists assigned to grades K through 4
- Manages non-LBS courses for students in Academic Services (on-line courses, SBCC, etc.)
- Lead PD for teachers and staff with strategies in pedagogy.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Experience in working with students who have diagnosed learning deficits or challenges in executive functioning
- Special education background preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in a school setting
- Familiarity with posting resources, feedback, and assignments to LMS in a timely manner
- Experience providing frequent, constructive, objective, and prompt feedback to students
- Significant experience with collegial collaboration, a growth mindset, and ongoing PD
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Creative analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite for Education, or related software
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s Degree highly preferred
- Prior teaching experience highly preferred in middle and/or high school
- Ongoing maintenance of all requirements regarding professional courses and in-services required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
- Must be able to traverse school facility and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency
COMPENSATION
Salary range $50,000 - $105,000 depending on experience and credentials. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement.
