The 6-12 Director of Theatre is responsible for creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters students' creativity, confidence, and skills in the theatrical arts. This individual will develop and implement curriculum, direct productions, and provide guidance and mentorship to students interested in all aspects of theatre, including acting, stagecraft, and production management.
Responsibilities include:
- Design and implement a comprehensive theatre curriculum that aligns with theatre education best practices catering to students with diverse skill levels and interests.
- Teach four courses in theatre, including Acting/Advanced Acting, Musical Theatre Workshop, and other courses that cover various aspects of theatre, including acting techniques, play analysis, dance, and theatre history.
- Lead all aspects of the direction and production of school plays, musicals, and other theatrical performances, guiding students through auditions, rehearsals, and performances.
- Provide one-on-one coaching and feedback to students to help them develop their acting skills, stage presence, and overall performance abilities.
- Offer guidance and instruction in technical aspects of theatre production, such as set design, lighting, sound, costume design, and stage management.
- Serve as Thespian Troupe Advisor
- Be an advisor in the Lake Ridge Academy School of Fine Arts (SOFA), with in-school hours and after-school hours commitments.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Theatre Arts, Drama Education, or a related field.
- State teaching certification or licensure in Theatre Education (if applicable).
- Previous experience teaching theatre at the middle and/or high school level preferred.
- Strong knowledge of theatre history, dramatic literature, and theatrical techniques.
- Proficiency in directing and producing theatrical performances.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, colleagues, and community members.
- Passion for theatre and a commitment to fostering creativity and self-expression in students.
