Lansdowne Friends School seeks a part-time* 5th/6th grade Math and Science teacher to begin in September of 2022. They will teach a combined 5/6 science class and separate 5th and 6th grade math classes–and work in close collaboration with the 5/6 Language Arts and Social Studies teacher to ensure a vibrant and engaging program for the oldest students in our school. This includes helping to coordinate graduation, service opportunities, leadership experiences, and day and overnight field trips.
Key qualities and qualifications sought include:
- A bachelor’s degree in elementary or middle school education or in a subject area (master’s preferred)
- Three or more years of experience as a lead teacher for this age group, preferably in a progressive and/or Quaker independent school
- Familiarity with Everyday Math or other hands-on, constructivist math programs
- Passion for teaching science, with a focus on environmental stewardship, on social justice, and on instilling in children an understanding of the scientific method and a love for science
- Familiarity with the Responsive Classroom approach to building class community
- Ability to form trusting and positive relationships with students
- Collaborative approach to working with children and colleagues
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Experience in developing and leading service projects that connect to the curriculum and/or that engage students in issues related to the environment and/or social justice
- Organizational and technology skills, such as Google Suites, Zoom, and student information systems
- Honesty, integrity, curiosity, flexibility, and strong work ethic
- Interest in being part of a collaborative professional culture
- Affinity with Quaker values and the mission of Lansdowne Friends School
Salary Range: Based on .75FTE of full-time teaching salaries of $39,500 to $51,880, depending on experience and educational background.
