REPORTS TO:
Head of Middle School
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working closely with the Head of Middle School, History Department Chair, Sixth Grade Team, and History Department colleagues, they will teach four sections of Global Studies: Foundations of Eastern Civilization to 6th grade students employing engaging, activity-based instruction that reflects current best teaching practices.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AS REQUIRED:
- Serve as advisor to ten to twelve middle school students
- Monitor a study hall for middle school students
- Lead extra-curricular activities as agreed upon with the Head of Middle School
- Serve as a member of the History Department, attending department meetings, developing and updating course curricula, and supporting the work of the department
- Support the school, its mission, and its leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- A bachelor’s degree in History or a related field is required, advanced degree preferred
- Collaborative spirit in developing curricula and teaching methods, both within the department and across other disciplines
- A demonstrated passion for teaching History The ability and patience to teach foundational skills for organization, note-taking, and research
- Strong writing skills and enthusiasm for teaching writing
- Understanding of the developmental needs of middle school students
- Ability to differentiate instruction to reach all levels of learners
- Desire to be involved in the Louisville Collegiate School community outside the classroom
- Proven positive working relationships with colleagues, students, and families
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Proven organizational skills
- Understanding of independent schools preferred
