Merion Mercy Academy, an independent Catholic college preparatory school for girls grades 9-12 outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, seeks an experienced financial controller in our Business Office beginning immediately.
Reporting to the Head of School, the Controller leads and manages the day-to-day operation of the business office and has functional responsibility over accounting and general ledger, and payroll. The ideal candidate is a clear communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate widely with various constituencies throughout the School’s community including students, faculty, staff, parents and vendors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee all financial accounting of the school, and ensure the integrity of the accounting processes, systems, and internal control structure.
- Manage general ledger accuracy, cash flow projections and the full calendar of accounting-related activities.
- Supervise all incoming cash receipts and deposits and maintain daily cash balance and ensure timely, accurate payment of debt service.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and explain variances to the budget.
- Coordinate and support annual audit with external auditors.
- Direct the budgeting process in collaboration with school administrators and department heads.
- Support the work of the Board of Trustees Finance Committee.
- Provide timely, relevant, and accurate financial information to the school’s managers and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Finance to prepare projections and model long-term budget scenarios and forecast updates.
- All other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required with 7 or more years of accounting experience; CPA strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute at both a strategic and an operational level.
- A person of exceptional character with the highest level of moral and ethical conduct.
- Knowledge of Blackbaud’s Financial Edge software a plus.
