Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of the Nation's Capital (MILTON) is an independent, community Jewish day school in Washington, DC that offers a curriculum of general studies, Hebrew, and Judaic studies for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The Office of Institutional Advancement (IA) is directly responsible for securing philanthropic support for MILTON and enhancing the school's reputation locally and nationally.
MILTON seeks a Director of Annual Giving to be an essential part of the IA team. This is a full-time position with significant evening and weekend work required. The Director of Annual Giving is responsible for setting and meeting the school’s annual fund goal, currently $1+ million. Working closely with the IA team, the Director will plan and execute each year’s annual giving strategy, including direct solicitations, campaigns and events.
Essential Qualifications:
The IA team seeks a person with 5-10 years’ experience in charitable gift solicitation, strategic planning and donor relationships. Strong writing and organizational skills are essential, and familiarity with donor engagement software, including Raiser’s Edge, is a plus. Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to personal growth, and a prevailing can-do attitude.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Maintain an active portfolio of mid-level and major donor prospects.
- Develop and execute a multi-channel fundraising plan to achieve annual goals and attract, retain, and recapture donors.
- Design, implement, and direct a comprehensive donor relations program that appropriately and consistently promotes interaction with and recognition of donors at all levels.
- Evaluate the quality and impact of a donor relations program whose components include but are not limited to use of gifts, recognition, events, gift agreements, management of information, and privacy compliance.
- Utilize a sophisticated donor database to track giving and engagement, analyze giving trends, and support a relationship-based fundraising model.
- Run major development events, including Share the Nachas Day (grandparents' day), Purim Ball (gala), and the Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Lecture (community lecture), among others.
- Recruit and empower volunteer leaders to assist with development work.
- Create and deploy development-related materials, including segmented and personalized direct mail and online solicitations, event invitations, etc.
- Collaborate across departments to develop an energetic and enthusiastic culture of philanthropy.
