Sidwell Friends School, an independent co-educational Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC and Bethesda, MD, seeks a Counselor for its Middle and Upper School divisions. The Counselor will split their time between the two divisions and work in collaboration with the other Counselors at the School. On occasion, the Counselor may be asked to offer support in the Lower School. The School currently has one full time counselor in each division (Lower, Middle, and Upper), with an additional part-time Counselor in the Upper School, the largest division.
The Counselor works with students, faculty, and parents on issues affecting the mental health and general wellness of the school community and of the community at large. The Counselor serves as a key member of the student support team along with the principal, assistant principals, and others.
The successful candidate will be excited about, comfortable with and experienced in working with adolescents. They will also be able to demonstrate a history of successfully offering proactive and solution-focused counseling with the age group.
Candidates must have a doctorate or master’s in the fields of social work or psychology as well as appropriate professional licensing credentials. Doctoral degrees in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, school psychology, and social work are preferred. A minimum of 5-7 years’ experience working with adolescents, ideally in an academically rigorous school setting, is also required.
Positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus-based; therefore, this position requires working with students in person.
