POSITION TITLE: Director of Community Engagement and Annual Giving
REPORTS TO: Head of School
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt/12 Month Position
POSITION OBJECTIVE:
As a senior member of the Administrative team, this position is responsible for the cultivation and management of community engagement and annual fundraising programs, including alumni relations/cultivation. The Director of Community Engagement & Annual Giving works in leadership and collaboration with the Head of School, all members of the Advancement team, and the Riviera Ridge Family Association to build a strong culture of philanthropy, recruitment and retention of current families, and continued institutional support of alumni and alumni families.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree, with a preferred emphasis in Communications, Business, Marketing, and Public Relations and/or Non-Profit Management, Education
- 5+ years of experience in the nonprofit sector and/or in fundraising in Independent schools
- Familiarity with the local community and proven success indirectly soliciting and closing charitable gifts
- Collaborative leadership and management style
- Enthusiastic proven ability to work as a flexible, positive member of a team as well as independently
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and considered a “good listener” as well as a public speaker
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete multiple tasks on time in a fast-paced environment
- Proven organizational and management skills with the ability to thoughtfully manage conflict resolution
- Strong work ethic and open to continued professional development in Advancement and Community Engagement services
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Passionate about working with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Experience working with and motivating volunteers and staff members
- Work experience in an independent school, college, and/or non-profit setting understanding discretion with confidential information is a must
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Provide strong leadership and modeling in support of the Riviera Ridge Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
- Support and promote the educational philosophy of the Riviera Ridge academic and co-curricular programs.
- Establish and execute forward-thinking Community Engagement, Advancement, and Strategic programs that optimally grow the annual giving programs, alumni relations programs, and enhance special events including but not limited to traditional giving opportunities, capital campaigns; legacy gifts; and planned giving.
- Work in collaboration with the Head of School and Advancement team to develop all aspects of Community Engagement, including but not limited to internal and external fundraising, leading the annual giving program, soliciting corporate and foundation proposals; creating a strong alumni association, and special events.
- Works in collaboration with the Advancement Team on all marketing and communications initiatives to create/produce fundraising-related communication materials to expand and enhance the school’s visibility and reputation.
- In collaboration with the Head of School and Director of Finance, develops the annual fundraising goals for each fiscal year.
- Identify corporate and foundation funding opportunities and help draft grant applications.
- Strengthen relationships with the school’s alumni and further develop alumni programming.
- in collaboration with the Head of School and members of the Board of Trustees, enhance existing relationships and programs to cultivate and/or personally solicits major donors
- Manages the Community Engagement budget in alliance with all Advancement activities.
- Works with the Advancement Team to develop the yearly advancements and events calendar including dates for training and acknowledging volunteers, events, and all solicitations.
- Works in collaboration with all members of the Advancement Team to establish goals and objectives for all admissions, Community Engagement, and marketing activities.
- Manages Annual Giving Programs and works in collaboration with the Advancement Team to produce annual fundraising events;

- Annual Auction Gala-Spring
- Provides support and guidance to volunteer leadership of the annual fund, auction, and golf tournament.
- Identifies, cultivates, recruits, trains, and leads a staff of professionals and volunteers to carry out the activities to assist in fundraising efforts.
- Creates training materials for all Community Engagement volunteer positions.
- Nurture and maintain a highly collaborative relationship with the Head of School and Board of Trustees, supporting them in all their fundraising responsibilities, and accompanying them on donor visits when appropriate.
- Serves on both the BOT Development Committee and the Staff Representative to the RRFA Advisory Board.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Works in a school environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment
- Occasional nights and weekends may be required
