The Village School of Naples continues to grow and is accepting resumes for a full-time Health Administrator/School Nurse. The Village School values inquiry-based, student-centered learning aimed to empower and inspire students to create solutions to challenges faced in an ever-changing world.
The Health Administrator/School Nurse will oversee basic health and safety of students ranging from Preschool to Upper School. The Health Administrator/School Nurse is responsible for assessing and treating basic injuries and illnesses among students within scope of license. This position must adhere to the student health guidelines as written in the parent handbook and provides instruction of good health and disease prevention to students and faculty.
The Village School needs a School Nurse to care for our students. We’re looking for a caring, compassionate, experienced professional who loves taking care of children and prioritizes communication and engagement. The position requires administrative work as well as one-on-one time with students, and we’re looking for an individual who truly cares about making our School a better place for our students. This includes educating students about healthy habits as well as responding to any medical complaints at school.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adheres to Florida School Health Administrative Medication Guidelines and regulations.
- Provides first aid care and medically prescribed services to students as directed.
- Maintains security of school health supplies.
- Maintains proper security of all medications.
- Collects and maintains all student state and medical physical forms. Record Administrator to maintain all immunization records.
- Maintain communication and work in conjunction with the Records Administrator in regards to student immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data.
- Serves as an active member of the Health and Safety team.
- Serves as an active member of New Hire orientation for all new employees.
- Create and maintain a school wide student allergy list each school year.
- Maintain active communication with teachers and faculty.
- Maintain active communication with Aftercare Coordinator and staff.
- Implement and follow up on all incident reports.
- Serves as a resource person on health issues.
- Correspond with parents/guardians on health needs of students.
- Adhere to current school health policies, procedures, and work standards for the school health program.
- Maintain compliance of school health program with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and policies.
- Initiate program changes and improvements as needed and only as approved by the Head of School.
- Communicate student nurse visits to parents/guardians timely and clearly.
- Utilize the RenWeb communication system for correspondence with students’ parents/guardians.
- Utilize the Health Administrator/School Nurse handbook for additional details of nature of work.
- Implements and manages communicable disease control in the school, including monitoring, surveillance and participating in disease prevention and outbreak management within the school.
- Overseeing infection control measures.
- Determining the impact of students’ contagious illnesses and acting to prevent the spread of communicable disease in the school setting.
- Assess the school environment to prevent injury and ensure safety.
- Oversee medication administration and health care procedures.
- Providing healthcare to students with acute or chronic health problems.
- Maintaining confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues.
- Coordinate with Director of Safety & Security on all emergency matters.
- Provide CPR Training to all staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, LICENSURE, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Registered Professional Nurse licensed in the State of Florida
- Must have 2-5 years of RN experience, pediatric strongly preferred.
- Must have at least 5 years’ experience as an LPN, pediatric strongly preferred.
- 2+ years’ experience at a school or in an educational environment, strongly preferred.
- Must have an active unrestricted L.P.N. or R.N. license to practice by the Florida Board of Nursing
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR/AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
- CPR Certified Trainer, strongly preferred.
- Must have experience and/or desire to work with children/adolescents.
SKILLS:
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques, and procedures in providing nursing services
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and common medications
- Working knowledge of clinic procedures, instruments, equipment, and the uses and effects of medications
- Knowledge of childhood illnesses
- Considerable knowledge of child growth and development
- Working knowledge of public health problems and current healthcare updates
- Knowledge of First Aid and CPR
- Strong skills in the use of glucometer, nebulizer, catheters, IVAC feeding machines and equipment, suction machine, and related medical equipment
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to develop positive working relationships. Must be professional and approachable
- Impeccable organization skills
- Strong time management skills
- Strong skills in establishing and maintaining information, record, document, and file systems
- Ability to administer medications and treatments adjusting to the student’s condition

Requires walking, standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, simple grasping, pushing pulling, fine motor and gross motor skills, bending, lifting, squatting, kneeling, climbing and reaching.
