Upper School Student Counselor
Rutgers Preparatory School
Rutgers Preparatory School is seeking an experienced and innovative individual for a full-time faculty position in our Upper School as an Upper School Counselor beginning August 2024. The Counselor is also a member of the administrative team responsible for partnering with faculty and parents. The Counselor will be a vital member of the Health and Wellness Department. This position reports to the Director of Health and Wellness and the Upper School Principal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to take initiative and implement programming for students, faculty and parents as well as a willingness to collaborate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual support to students with identified concerns and needs
- Identify at-risk students and implement interventions to enhance success
- Work with the Upper School faculty to promote a positive emotional and academic climate in the school
- Consult with teachers, parents, and administrators regarding concerns about the social and emotional welfare of students
- Provide and organize faculty and family education sessions on SEL related topics
- Assist families in addressing school-related problems
- Refer families to and consult with outside agencies, organizations, and specialists when necessary and serve as a liaison between outside mental health providers and the school
- Respond to crises as needed
- Collaborate with Learning Specialists, Upper School Administration and College Counseling Department on a regular basis
- Provide support to faculty when needed
