Oak Hill School is seeking a Director of Advancement to lead and coordinate all advancement functions of the school, including fundraising, donor relations, communications, marketing, and community engagement. This strategic role works closely with the Head of School and Board of Trustees to design a comprehensive advancement strategy that supports the school’s mission and long-term priorities.
The Director of Advancement oversees the annual fund, major gifts, capital or endowment campaigns (as needed), alumni and parent relations, stewardship, events, and marketing/communications initiatives that strengthen the school’s visibility and culture of giving.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement a multi-year advancement plan integrating fundraising, marketing, and communications.
Serve on the leadership team; advise the Head of School and Board on advancement strategy, trends, and progress.
Set annual and long-term goals for giving, engagement, brand awareness, and institutional visibility.
Fundraising & Development
In partnership with the Board and Head of School, lead all fundraising programs: annual fund, major gifts, planned giving, corporate/foundation partnerships, and campaign initiatives.
Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects; lead cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts.
Provide leadership for donor stewardship, impact reporting, gift processing, and acknowledgement.
Oversee donor and volunteer events that support advancement goals.
Communications & Marketing
Supervise the creation and execution of a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy that supports enrollment, advancement, and school culture.
Ensure mission-aligned messaging across print, digital, website, email, and social media platforms.
Develop case statements, impact stories, campaign materials, and advancement publications.
Community Engagement
Foster strong relationships with families, alumni, and grandparents.
Build and manage programs that strengthen parent engagement and alumni involvement.
Represent the school at community events, donor meetings, and school functions.
Data & Operations
Oversee advancement databases to ensure accuracy of donor records, reporting, metrics, and analytics.
Partner with the business office on gift accounting, reporting, and audit compliance.
Provide regular advancement updates to the Head of School, Board of Trustees, and related committees.
Volunteer & Board Partnership
Work with the Board’s Advancement/Development Committee to align strategy and volunteer involvement.
Recruit, train, and support parent and community volunteers who assist with giving programs and advancement initiatives.
Support and direct the Parents’ Association, partnering with the PA presidents and Head of School.
Skills & Characteristics:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Minimum 5 years of advancement, fundraising, or development experience, ideally in an independent school or nonprofit setting.
Aligned with the Christian mission and vision of Oak Hill School.

Humble and authentic leader with a relational leadership style built on approachability, transparency, and responsiveness
Dynamic leader with strong organizational skills and experience in leading a team.
Demonstrated success in annual giving and/or major gifts.
Experience managing communications and marketing efforts.
Knowledge of donor-management databases and advancement operations.
