The Kew-Forest School, a PS-12 co-educational day school founded in 1918 in Forest Hills, NY, seeks a Preschool/Pre-kindergarten Associate Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. The Kew-Forest School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate school for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) with authorization visits planned for this fall. The individual who fills this position must be energetic, creative, imaginative, and thoughtful in their approach to curriculum and pedagogy and will contribute substantially to the revamping of our Lower School program as the School enters its era of Kew-Forest 2.0.
Position Description
The Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten Associate Teacher role is collaborative. While the Lead Teacher holds primary responsibility for the class, both teachers plan together to deliver whole- and small-group instruction across content areas. Associate Teachers meet regularly with their Lead Teacher and a designated mentor, both in groups and individually.
The ideal candidate will:
Hold a bachelor's degree (most candidates possess or are pursuing a teaching credential or Master’s degree, with the goal of advancing to Lead Teacher;
Have prior classroom experience (preferred);
Collaborate with the Lead Teacher on all aspects of instruction and student support;
Master grade level curriculum, instructional frameworks, best teaching practices, and will progress toward implementing them independently;
Provide direct student instruction, with increasing responsibility over time;
Engage in collaborative planning, observation, and feedback with Lead Teachers, as well as goal-setting and workshops with the Lower School Administration;
Assist with classroom routines (e.g. record keeping, attendance, dismissal planning, materials preparation, and data collection);
Support Lower School operations (e.g. arrival, lunch, dismissal);
Participate in parent communication (e.g. parent/teacher conferences, Back-to-School Night, report card writing) with guidance;
Attend after school meetings and professional development sessions;
Assume Lead Teacher responsibilities in the absence of the Lead teacher; and
Fulfill any additional duties as assigned by the Head or Assistant Head of Lower School.
The Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten Associate Teacher partners with a Lead Teacher, who plays a vital role in the Associate’s professional development. Through observation, collaboration with experienced teachers, and active participation in school life, Associates gain valuable experience while developing their own philosophy and teaching style.
Salary Range
$42,000-$50,000 commensurate with years of experience
