Position Summary Gill St. Bernard’s School is searching for a dynamic and experienced Lower School Homeroom Leave Replacement Teacher beginning mid-February 2026 until early June 2026. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching elementary aged children and eager to collaborate with colleagues. The successful candidate will teach Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies, in addition to overseeing the social and emotional needs of homeroom students. They will be patient, encouraging, and flexible with students, and will model GSB’s core values of compassion, excellence, integrity, respect, and courage.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement classroom lessons that align with the Lower School Language Arts, Math, and Social Studies curriculums.
Collaborate with other grade-level homeroom teachers and team members.
Perform rotational Lower School duties such as lunch duty, recess duty, car line responsibilities, etc.
Assess students’ progress, report grades, and write comments.
Maintain ongoing parent communication.
Actively participate in faculty professional development and observations, with support from Lower School administrators.
Participate in faculty, divisional, and grade-team meetings.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Division Director.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Experience with the Orton-Gillingham approach, Singapore Math and Responsive Classroom
3+ years of experience of teaching at the Lower School level
Capacity for a high degree of collaboration with others
Interest in the development of learners in this age group
Experience instructing a diverse student population
Demonstrated deep understanding of cultural competency and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work
Enthusiasm for and effective use of technology in the classroom
Ability to work with students in-person or virtually, as determined by the School

Salary Range: $17,000 - $20,000 (Mid-February 2026 – Early June 2026) *Final salary is commensurate with experience, education level, relevant certifications or specialized training, any specific skill set required for the role.
