Job Description
Verde Valley School seeks a skilled, enthusiastic and experienced high school English teacher with the ability to teach 9th-12th grade IB, AP and/or pre-IB/AP English as well as an interest in and ability to teach advanced level ESL students studying in the IB program as exchange students.
Through reading and viewing a range of genres VVS students develop their critical reading and analytical writing skills. English classes at VVS include seminar discussions, frequent opportunities to practice and receive feedback on their analytical writing as well as creative and collaborative projects. A belief that all students can develop the reading and writing skills necessary for college and beyond coupled with an affinity for differentiating instruction for a wide range of students are hallmarks of the VVS English faculty.
In addition to teaching, all full-time faculty lead one extracurricular sport/activity twice each week. In terms of residential duty, faculty supervise students one evening per week and one weekend per month. Verde Valley is proud of its experiential education programs. Faculty are responsible for co-leading a ten-day experiential education travel program throughout the Southwest during the fall. In the spring, faculty lead an eight-day on-campus project-based program on a topic outside their discipline.
Verde Valley School is a residential community. On-campus housing and meals at the dining hall are provided.
Preference is given to candidates who have:
Experience designing IB, AP and pre-IB/AP English curriculum
Experience differentiating instruction for a wide range of learners
Previous professional experience in a residential setting
The ability to coach sports or activities offered at VVS
Experience leading multi-day experiential education trips
