Position Summary and Overview
The Churchill School & Center, aK-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking an Upper School (Grades 7-12) leave replacement English Teacher for hire from August 2025 - November 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Work collaboratively with cooperating team members, including but not limited to: co-head teacher, related service providers and specialists to plan and implement units of study, lessons, assignments, and projects & activities that reflect a diversity of voices and points of view
Develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and tools for students to become independent, college-bound learners
Break down/scaffold of in-class assignments and projects
Grade student work and participation
Track students’ work and progress
Serve as an advisor to a small group of students
Communicate with Student families as needed
Attend relevant staff meetings as required
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have...
BA or BS Degree in English, English Education, Special Education or related field
MA or MS Degree in English Education, Literacy/Reading , Special Education or related field
NYS Teacher Certification
Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective service strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
Classroom or small group instruction experience building positive and appropriate relationships with students
Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and technology
Interest in professional career development in the field of special education and literacy instruction
Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor
Compensation
$63K-$85K annual salary commensurate with experience
