Salary Details:
The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $100,000. Final compensation will be determined based on teaching experience. Montclair Kimberley Academy, an innovative Jr-K–12 independent day school, seeks a full-time teacher in the Upper School for the 2026-27 school year to teach a variety of courses ranging from ninth and tenth grade year-long English courses as well as junior and senior English department electives. Responsibilities include teaching four sections of English and serving as an advisor to a group of approximately ten students.
Qualified applicants will meet the following criteria:
Possess a BA or higher in English literature, MA preferred.
Demonstrate experience teaching high school students.
Implement a diverse range of instructional strategies for a student-centered approach in the 70-minute block period.
Teach a range of courses within an innovative high school English curriculum.
Invest in our commitment to multicultural education by teaching texts and introducing units that examine race, gender, class, sexual orientation, and religion.
Demonstrate careful consideration of the ethical challenges and opportunities posed by AI, and a commitment to ongoing examination of the impact of this emerging technology.
Show commitment to helping students one-on-one outside of the classroom.
Demonstrate the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying learning styles and levels of ability. Experience teaching AP courses is preferable.
Help to cultivate a culture of student reading outside the classroom.
Have a strong interest in working with students as an advisor and as an extracurricular activity sponsor or coach.
Candidates should possess outstanding interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; the willingness and flexibility to work as a member of a collaborative team; love of learning; and the ability to integrate technology into classroom instruction. Candidates should be willing to work as a collaborative member of the department and to teach a range of classes according to the needs of the department.
