Position Overview:
Holton-Arms is seeking a passionate, experienced, student-centered Middle School Chinese teacher. This person will teach a spiraling Chinese curriculum, provide Chinese instruction for 7th, and 8th grades. The Middle School Chinese teacher needs to inspire a passion for the Chinese language, create a positive learning environment that supports the well-being of students, communicate effectively with students and parents, and work collaboratively with other language teachers in the department, as well as division colleagues and administrators. The successful candidate will be prepared to commit to and promote the School’s Mission as well as the institutional priorities embodied in the School’s philosophy of Learn Well, Live Well, Lead Well and the Diversity Mission Statement.
Key Responsibilities
Teach 7th grade Chinese 1A and 8th grade Chinese 1B
A passion for developing language skills for effective communication
Commitment to fostering a student-centered, competency based learning environment
Communicate regularly with students and parents
Work collaboratively with members of the World Language department, other middle school teachers, and administrators
Attend regular meetings, including in-house professional development
Participate in supervisory and extracurricular duties, including chaperoning events, lunch and recess duties, and parent events
Contribute to the Middle School community in various ways such as leading clubs, supporting student events, and other programming either within the division or school wide
Flexibility and enthusiasm for working with middle school students
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor's degree or higher in Education or Chinese
3 to 5 years of relevant teaching experience and curriculum development
Commitment to creating a student-centered, project-based, and competency-driven classroom
Experience embedding Social and Emotional Learning, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging, and Global Competencies Into their curriculum
Passion for working with and deep understanding of Middle School students
Proficiency with technology and digital platforms in the classroom
Eagerness to collaborate with colleagues within and across disciplines
Understands language learning as an integral component of global competence
Believes language learning is something everyone can do
Commitment to continued professional learning
Salary and Benefits Information
The average salary range for this position is $35,000 to $50,000, as a 50% teacher, the exact salary to be determined based on education and experience. We use a step scale to determine teacher salary. Early career teachers are initially compensated less than the listed salary range and highly experienced teachers are compensated more than the listed salary range. Additional stipends are available for coaching, certain club sponsorship, and significant commitments outside of the classroom. Health and retirement benefits are not available for this 50% position. Lunch is provided on days when school is in session.
