								<description>Henrico, Virginia,  Lynnhaven School seeks a dynamic, hands-on Applied Arts Teacher for the 2026&#8211;2027 school year. This role is designed for an educator who thrives beyond traditional classroom boundaries and can facilitate skill-based, real-world learning experiences that connect creativity, culture, and authentic application. The ideal candidate  MUST  be able to teach Art or a world language, preferably Spanish, and additionally teach one to two electives based on strengths and passion&#8212;such as music, woodworking, theatre, design/maker projects, creative writing, digital media, photography, or other applied offerings aligned to the teacher&#8217;s discipline and skill set. 
 The Applied Arts Teacher will help students learn by doing&#8212;through language study, studios, workshops, performances, and community-based experiences&#8212;while supporting Lynnhaven&#8217;s progressive model.&#xa0; Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
 Instruction &#38; Course Facilitation 
 
 Teach Art or World Language (based on candidate expertise and program needs). 
 Teach one to two additional electives (e.g., music, woodworking, theatre, maker/design, digital media, or other applied offerings) depending on skills and interest. 
 Plan and deliver engaging lessons that prioritize active learning, student choice, and authentic outcomes (projects, performances, exhibitions, portfolios). 
 Differentiate instruction to support a wide range of learners and learning profiles. 
 Maintain accurate student progress records and support consistent communication regarding growth and expectations. 
 
 Applied &#38; Experiential Learning Design 
 
 Design learning experiences that connect course content to real-world applications through hands-on practice and project completion. 
 When appropriate, incorporate community-based experiences, local resources, and partnership opportunities to enrich student learning. 
 Support student showcases, performances, demonstrations, exhibits, or portfolio presentations. 
 
 Student Support &#38; School Community 
 
 Build strong relationships with students and create a positive, inclusive learning environment. 
 Communicate proactively with families regarding student progress, projects, and participation expectations. 
 Participate in school routines and structures as assigned (Morning Meeting, Community Time, House activities). 
 
 Collaboration &#38; Professional Responsibilities 
 
 Collaborate with faculty to support interdisciplinary connections when appropriate. 
 Participate in meetings, professional development, and required trainings. 
 Support school events and occasional evening obligations tied to student exhibitions, performances, or community events. 
 
 Qualifications 
 Required 
 
 Demonstrated ability to teach Art or a World language to adolescents. 
 Ability and willingness to teach one to two electives beyond the primary discipline (e.g., music, theatre, woodworking, maker-based offerings, digital media), depending on skills and interest. 
 Strong facilitation skills and the ability to lead hands-on learning environments safely and effectively. 
 Strong communication skills and a commitment to relationship-centered teaching. 
 Comfort working in a progressive, student-centered school environment. 
 
 Preferred 
 
 Able to teach a World Language and Art 
 Teaching license and/or significant relevant teaching experience. 
 Experience in experiential learning, studio-based instruction, performance-based instruction, and/or applied skill instruction. 
 Experience supporting students with learning differences and implementing accommodations. 
 Familiarity with exhibitions, showcases, portfolios, or competency/mastery-based assessments. 
 
 Physical &#38; Other Requirements 
 
 Must be able to lift and/or carry at least 15 pounds. 
 Must be willing to drive a 15-passenger school bus/van as needed for applied/experiential learning activities and field experiences (training and eligibility requirements may apply). 
 Must demonstrate proficient technology skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and standard email tools.

They will use engaging strategies to build confidence and support language acquisition, while establishing and maintaining a safe, orderly and inclusive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and social-emotional growth. The successful candidate will maintain open, clear communication with families regarding student progress and classroom experiences and collaborate closely with classroom teachers and specialists. Our Lower School program promotes intellectual curiosity, a love of discovery and a passion for learning about other cultures and the world. We are seeking a teacher who loves working with children, collaborates well with colleagues and inspires students to embrace language learning while developing cultural competence.

 Experience teaching Spanish to elementary school students
