Start Date: August 24, 2026
The Learning Project is a uniquely small elementary school centrally located in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. We believe in nurturing students’ academic and personal growth, encouraging the joy and creativity within each child, and taking advantage of all that our city setting has to offer.
For over fifty years, the core of the school’s mission has remained: to enroll a diverse group of students, provide them with exciting and age-appropriate learning opportunities, to help children develop strength of character, and to build a sense of connection through yearly traditions, cross-age opportunities, and meaningful whole school activities. The Learning Project’s community remains its biggest strength, and core to that community is its dedicated faculty and staff who are committed to the school’s mission, its families, to supporting one another, and to their own personal and professional development.
Position: The school seeks a compassionate and skilled Part-Time School Nurse to serve as the primary healthcare resource for our students and school community (enrollment of approximately 120 students, grades K-6). This role is responsible for promoting student health, managing acute illness and injury, distributing doctor prescribed medications to students, and ensuring compliance with Massachusetts school health regulations.
Schedule: Approximately 20 hours per week during the academic year (late August to mid-June). Hours are able to be scheduled flexibly between 7:30am-5:30pm.
Specific responsibilities include:
Provide first aid and triage for ill or injured students; contact parents and emergency services as appropriate
Maintain accurate, confidential student health records in compliance with Massachusetts Department of Public Health requirements
Facilitate the annual application for the school’s MCSR with MA Department of Public Health
Administer prescribed and over-the-counter medication in accordance with the state’s medication policy and train/oversee staff administering medications when not physically at the school; be available for consultation by phone during school hours
Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to support students with medical and health-related needs
Monitor immunization records and ensure compliance with Massachusetts school immunization requirements
Maintain the health office supplies, equipment, and emergency medications (EpiPens, inhalers, etc.)
Qualifications:
Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing (required)
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (required)
Experience working with school-age children, pediatric nursing, or a school health setting
Familiarity with Massachusetts school health laws and Department of Public Health guidelines
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with children, families, and a multidisciplinary team
Ability to maintain composure and sound judgment in urgent situations
The salary range for this position is $30,000 to $45,000 commensurate with experience.
