Position Summary
Oversee and teach in Learning Support Program (LSP) classes for participating students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.
Essential Duties
Under the supervision of the Director of Learning Support, oversee and teach in Learning Support Program (LSP) classes for participating students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, which includes:
Design individualized interventions aligned to students’ evaluations and report recommendations
Development of supplemental academic instruction aligned to individual student needs in content areas
Provide support on classwork and homework assignments by re-teaching or reviewing challenging concepts, offering instruction on specific study strategies, implementing organizational systems, and more
Collaborate with teachers to support student success by conducting classroom observations and providing specific interventional strategies
Coordinate assessment accommodations for qualified students, including,
Collaboration with the student, their family, and teachers to develop an accommodation usage plan.
Serve as a test proctor and manage coverage to provide a separate location/extended time for qualified students
Attend and participate in all grade level, goal meetings, and Student Support Team meetings to discuss, hear, and share student concerns/progress
Write, coordinate, maintain and distribute student accommodations plans to teachers and parents, while enforcing confidentiality, distribution, and accessibility
Demonstrate cultural competency for the diversity of identities and experiences and an orientation toward equity and inclusion
Athletic coaching and/or extracurricular activities are encouraged.
Reporting Relationships
General supervision is received from the Director of Learning Support, Middle School Director, and grade level Deans.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education required, masters preferred.
Must have excellent oral and written communications skills and be able to interface positively and effectively with students, parents, administration, and faculty
Knowledge about learning disabilities, accommodations, and learning strategies is preferred
Knowledge of or experience in independent schools is a plus.
Minimum 3 years of middle school teaching experience in an educational setting
Must be able to maintain confidentiality, in communication and documentation
Proficient and enthusiastic user of technology
Preference to candidates with coaching experience or expressed willingness to coach or direct activities

Detroit Country Day School’s facilities are situated in two locations approximately three miles apart and less than one half hour from the center of Detroit. The Detroit Country Day Upper School offers a strong and varied program that provides numerous opportunities for students to demonstrate their individual strengths and develop their potential. The rigorous college-preparatory program, which includes Honors and Advanced Placement courses in each discipline in addition to a diverse selection of electives, prepares students for college and beyond. In addition to a series of honors and Advanced Placement courses, students at Detroit Country Day Upper School may pursue an International Baccalaureate Diploma.
