10-month Full-Time, Faculty Exempt
Key is seeking a dedicated and visionary Middle School Learning Specialist/Special Educator to join our Learning Department for the 2026-2027 academic year. This role is designed for an educator who is both a student advocate and an instructional leader. The Learning Specialist works closely with faculty and administrators to create supportive learning environments, identify areas for improvement, and implement innovative solutions that promote student success.
The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a passion for experiential learning and a deep commitment to culturally responsive, research-based instruction.
Job Responsibilities
Student Academic Support and Intervention:
Monitor students for learning needs and potential academic support
Provide direct academic support for students in 5th and 6th grade, including teaching two small-group support classes
Provide academic and social-emotional support in tandem with classroom teachers
Oversee testing accommodations
Communicate with outside professionals as needed
Review and interpret students’ psychoeducational evaluations
Create and implement student support plans
Administer selected diagnostic testing
Implement concussion protocols
Collaborate with Lower School Learning Specialists to support students moving from Lower to Middle School
Oversee on-campus tutoring schedule and collaborate with tutors
Teacher Support
Work with faculty on support plans and instructional accommodations
Conduct student observations and provide faculty support
Plan professional development for faculty in consultation with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Program and Curriculum
Work with teachers to adapt curricular materials and assessment practices
Collaborate with Social Emotional Learning team to develop and deliver grade-wide Life Skills lessons
Family Support and Education
Communicate directly with families regarding learning and academic support
Provide referrals for outside academic support and/or evaluation
Plan and/or support family education programs related to academic support and learning profiles
Administrative Responsibilities
Consult with the Middle School Admissions Committee as needed
Orchestrate all aspects of annual standardized testing across the Middle School

Qualifications
Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's degree in the field of education (a Master’s Degree in special education or related field is preferred)
Minimum requirement of 3 years of experience working with students in a resource or instructional role.

The salary range for this position is $47,405-$89,005 and is based on several factors that include, but not limited to, the candidate’s work experience and education.
Technical Competencies
All candidates for teaching positions should be familiar with learning management systems such as Seesaw and Google Classroom and have the ability to create and deliver engaging multimedia content using a variety of digital tools. Key is a Google Workspace for Education school. Candidates should be proficient in using Google applications, have a solid understanding of cloud-based storage and file-sharing platforms, and efficiently manage email and scheduling using Gmail and Google Calendar. They should be proficient in virtual communication tools such as Zoom or Google Meet and have basic troubleshooting skills to resolve common technical issues that may arise in the classroom.
Work Schedule/Travel
Occasionally, there may be school functions that will require your presence to work flexible hours, including nights and/or weekends. Additionally, participation in scheduled faculty meetings is required.
