POSITION OVERVIEW
The Coordinator of High Performance leads the design, implementation, and management of a comprehensive, year-round athletic performance program for all Westminster student-athletes (Grades 6–12). This role directs the school’s strength & conditioning efforts across 23 varsity programs while advancing departmental priorities in innovation, sport science, data-informed decision making, and holistic student-athlete development.
Working in collaboration with the Assistant Coordinator of High Performance, sport coaches, athletic trainers, and academic partners—including the Blake Center for Innovation—the Coordinator ensures that all training is developmentally appropriate, evidence-based, and aligned with Westminster’s mission of developing high-character, high-performing students.
The position also includes teaching responsibilities within Westminster’s Sports Performance curriculum and plays a central role in shaping a best-in-class high-performance program within one of the nation’s premier independent school athletic departments.

Position Status: Salaried, exempt, full-time, 12-month
Hours of Work: Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weekend and evening work will be required.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for a successful candidate.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred (Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength & Conditioning, Sport Science, or related fields).
- CSCS, SCCC, or equivalent nationally recognized certification required; USAW, NASM-PES, or similar preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience designing and leading strength & conditioning or high-performance programs at the high school, collegiate, or professional level.
- Demonstrated expertise in biomechanics, movement science, recovery, and sport technology systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with coaches, students, families, and interdisciplinary colleagues.
- Knowledge of GHSA guidelines and independent school athletic programming.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: High-Performance Program Development
- Designs and oversees a unified Long-Term Athletic Development (LTAD) system from Middle School through Varsity – building and executing a school-wide high-performance framework emphasizing training quality, recovery, wellness, and athlete load management.
- Integrates best practices in strength development, speed training, conditioning, mobility, recovery science, nutrition, and injury prevention.
- Partners with athletic trainers to coordinate workload monitoring, return-to-play progression, and integrated care.
- Leads Speed & Agility programming, including curriculum design, registration, and attendance processes.
- Aligns performance initiatives with academic calendars, competitive schedules, and preseason, in-season, and postseason periods.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Program Leadership
- In collaboration with the assistant coordinator of sports performance, leads daily training sessions before school, during the school day, and after school in the Ellis Fitness Center.
- Develops age- and level- appropriate progressions (Middle School Foundations, Developmental Grades 9–10, Advanced Grades 11–12). Educate students on proper lifting technique, sprint mechanics, movement quality, and safety standards for all athletes, and ensure they are followed.
- Conducts sport-specific needs analyses and collaborates with coaches on training alignment and competitive readiness.
- Maintains a disciplined, inclusive, high-energy training environment grounded in accountability and character.
- Oversees all in-season and off-season team training sessions and mentors assistant staff.
- Regularly attends competitions for various sports teams/programs.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Innovation, Technology & Analytics
- Serves as the department’s leader for innovation and performance technologies.
- Utilizes systems already in place, such as VALD Force Decks, Output Sports, GPS, readiness tools, and TeamBuildr to guide decision-making. Explore emerging performance technologies in an effort to continue to evolve.
- Monitors athlete readiness, performance trends, and workload metrics; adjusts programming accordingly.
- Builds dashboards and produces regular performance reports for sport coaches, student-athletes, and athletics leadership.
- Partners with the Blake Center for Innovation to create student-facing projects in sports science, analytics, biomechanics, and technology integration.
- Evaluates and recommends new technologies that enhance athlete health, development, and competitive success.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Teaching, Collaboration & Communication
- Teaches two sections of Sports Performance electives focused on training science, movement principles, and applied sport performance.
- Communicates consistently with sport coaches to align training plans, share progress data, and support sport-specific needs.
- Collaborates with Athletic Trainers and the PE Department to unify recovery, rehabilitation, and developmental programming.
- Provides education for athletes and parents on training, wellness, nutrition, and high-performance habits.
- Represents Westminster within local and national strength & conditioning and sport science communities.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Operations & Administration
- Manages scheduling and daily operations of the Ellis Fitness Center across before-school, class-day, and after-school windows.
- Maintains equipment inventory and replacement plans, coordinates maintenance and budget requirements, and ensures compliance with facility safety standards.
- Oversees data management, attendance systems, and accountability structures for all training groups.
- Leads staff professional development and ongoing training within the performance department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may regularly lift or move up to 50-100 pounds and will regularly spot up to 350-400 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to become certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid is required.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions and frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is often loud.

TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the regular business day. Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required and is associated mainly with planned games, events, conferences, and professional development opportunities.
Driving a Westminster vehicle may be required for this position.
