Head Varsity Girls Volleyball Coach
Cape Fear Academy seeks a Head Varsity Girls Volleyball Coach for the 2026-2027 season. A search committee has been appointed by the Athletic Director to assist in this search.
Cape Fear Academy seeks a leader who exudes the following qualities in their work with young women: integrity, discipline, patience, enthusiasm, excellent communication skills, and inspirational leadership. The search committee and the School will seek candidates with demonstrated good sportsmanship, community pride, and professionalism who inspire those around them to achieve at a higher level. This opportunity includes developing and engaging with players at all levels of the program in and out of season. Leading and “coaching the coaches” at all levels of the girls’ program is expected. The ideal candidate will be an experienced coach and teacher, exhibit high energy, have a warm, engaging leadership style, a keen intellect, a results-oriented and creative mentality and the ability to lead both fellow coaches, student athletes and team captains. This position will report to the Athletic Director and supervise the assistant coaches on the varsity staff, who will report to this position.
Specifically for volleyball, the school offers varsity and junior varsity teams along with two middle school teams comprised of 7th and 8th grade. The school enjoys two gymnasiums for its volleyball programs; one facility is used primarily for practices and the other is used for both practices and competitions.
Interscholastically, the school is a member of the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA) and competes in the 3A Classification and a member of the Coastal Plains Independent Conference.
Major Responsibilities:
Coordinate all aspects of the sport, including practice plans, game management, film upload and review, scouting and statistics management.
Design and implement successful strategies and methodologies appropriate for the coaching assignment.
Communicate with the administrative staff about the status of the school’s Girls Volleyball program.
Maintain high visibility within the school and community, and develop a positive rapport with students, parents, staff and community.
Supervise any assistant coaches.
Project a positive image and serve as an appropriate role model for the entire school community.
Promote and maintain a professional and positive working relationship with the greater volleyball community.
Organize and run summer workouts.
Consult on, or handle, parent and player concerns.
Answer questions and provide information to parents on club, clinic and camp opportunities.
Communicate professionally with parents and players.
Mentor and consult with JV and MS coaches on practice content and systems with a degree of visibility and availability appropriate to succeed.
Provide support to athletes with college aspirations and respond to college related inquiries.
Ability to demonstrate integrity, high expectations, commitment, respect, dedication to teamwork and passion for a student-centered environment.
Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of this job.
Ability to attract athletes to the Girls Volleyball program.
Knowledge of NCISAA rules and regulations and demonstrated ability to function within those rules and regulations.
Ability to articulate the role of athletics in an educational setting.
Capable of establishing a culture of discipline, including unfailing integrity and sportsmanship in student athletes.
Qualifications:
Gold Medal Squared or similar foundational coaching training and approach highly preferred.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required to transport students as needed.
Prior success in coaching.
Prior success in leadership positions.
Offer will be contingent upon successful background check, driving history review and references.
Compensation: Stipend paid during season for this seasonal coaching position.
Starting Date: August 2026 with some level of advance-preparation with Athletic Director and/or Assistant Athletic Director.
