The Head Coach position is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to student-athletes and assistant coaches within the program. The Head Coach will instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same time, student-athletes shall receive instruction that will foster the development of moral values, pride in accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. The Head Coach reports to and works closely with the Athletic and or Spirit Director to determine goals and direction of the program. The Head Coach is responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of every student-athlete participating in the Notre Dame High School program. The public exposure of NDB’s athletic programs is a considerable responsibility, and community/parent pressure for winning is taxing, but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship, good mental health, our purpose in educational-based activities, along with the Hallmarks given to our community by the Sisters of Notre Dame.
Program Leadership and Development
Develop and implement a long-term vision for the program to build a competitive team capable of competing at the highest level.
Lead and manage the Varsity Cheerleading Team in collaboration with the Head Coach of the Varsity Pom Program
Promote a positive team culture that prioritizes sportsmanship, discipline, and personal growth.
Foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Coaching & Athlete Development.
Develop and implement effective practice plans and strategies.
Focus on the fundamentals and advanced skills necessary for athletes to compete at the highest level.
Foster an environment that encourages both team and individual growth and helps prepare athletes for college-level participation if desired.
At the end of the season, sit with each athlete and provide feedback
Communication & Collaboration
Maintain open and effective communication with athletes, parents, coaches, athletics staff, and administration.
In consultation with the Athletic Director (and if needed, Administration), handle challenging conversations with professionalism and care while keeping the best interests of student-athletes and the school community in mind.
Admissions & Program Promotion
Actively promote the Spirit program during admissions events and outreach to prospective student-athletes.
Serve as an ambassador for the school, highlighting the benefits of the Spirit program and overall athletics experience.
Work with Athletics Staff and Communications Director to publicize the team on a regular basis on social media, etc.
Program Administration
Coordinate, develop, and communicate practice, game, and tournament schedules in collaboration with the Athletic Director. Coordinate transportation and equipment needs with the athletics office.
Coordinate the training, instruction, conditioning, and selection of student-athletes at all levels within the program. Verify athlete compliance with the athletic staff.
Arrange for post-season awards night, working with all coaching staff and parent volunteers.
Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Qualifications
Proven experience in teaching and modeling character, as well as demonstrating responsible behavior and good sportsmanship. Partners well with parents, faculty, staff, community leaders, etc.
Reliability, positivity, and dedication to the development of a successful program
Views success not just in winning, but in the overall development of the student-athlete as a whole
Must have substantial knowledge of the technical and strategic aspects of the sport, and at the same time continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field. Always strives to improve knowledge base and skills by seeking professional development opportunities.
Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.
Excellent communication skills, including experience managing difficult conversations with professionalism.
Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented environment for all athletes.
Ability to collaborate with various school departments, including admissions, athletics, and if needed, administration.
Required:
Coaching experience at the high school varsity level or coaching/playing at the Collegiate level
Bachelor’s Degree
NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion Training, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training, First Aid/CPR.
