Position Summary:
Hilton Head Prep seeks a creative, collaborative, and engaging Lower School Art Teacher for the 2025–2026 academic year. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for visual arts and the ability to inspire and nurture young students in grades JK3 through 5. This teacher will design and lead an art program that encourages creativity, risk-taking, fine motor development, and a love for the visual arts. At Hilton Head Prep, we value the artistic process and also appreciate a thoughtfully refined finished product that reflects each student’s growth, effort, and pride in their work.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and teach developmentally appropriate visual art lessons for students in JK3 through Grade 5.
Implement a curriculum that incorporates a wide range of artistic media, styles, techniques, and cultural perspectives.
Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to integrate art with classroom themes and school-wide projects.
Prepare and mount student artwork for exhibitions, community events, and school celebrations such as the annual Arts Festival.
Communicate with parents regarding student progress and upcoming art-related activities.
Participate in faculty meetings, Lower School events, and other community-building initiatives.
Uphold the school’s mission and values, contributing positively to the culture and climate of the Lower School.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). We also value individuals who have worked in related fields.
Minimum of two years teaching art in an elementary or independent school setting.
Experience with early childhood through fifth-grade learners and an understanding of their developmental stages.
Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
A growth mindset, sense of humor, and enthusiasm for working with children.
