Position Overview
We are seeking a Lower School Music Teacher to join the SGS community.
Essential Responsibilities
Create a positive, nurturing classroom environment characterized by autonomous learning and respect.
Design and develop creative and challenging music curriculum using an integrated approach, including proper voice and instrumental techniques, elements of music theory, multicultural music, and famous composers throughout the ages.
Utilize different strategies to meet students’ skill levels, learning styles, and social/emotional needs.
Foster student understanding of the collaborative nature of making music.
Conduct the Grades 3-5 Choir.
Direct the annual Holiday Concert, the fifth-grade capstone musical, the Lower School Variety Show, and lead musically during weekly Friday Assemblies.
Prepare relevant grade levels for Spokane Symphony education events and arrange those field trips.
Work closely with other classrooms and SGS colleagues in cooperative efforts.
Work closely with a supportive and active parent community.
Act as an ambassador of the school and collaborate with local music instructors and organizations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Previous elementary (K-5) teaching experience.
Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree.
State teaching certificate required (Washington or other); required degree in music or music endorsement.
