St. Anne’s School of Annapolis is hiring a Fifth Grade Humanities (Language Arts and Social Studies) Teacher who will instruct, guide, and supervise children in a warm, nurturing environment that is student centered and supports differentiated instruction. With the support of the Head of Upper School, this teacher will establish a safe and caring classroom community in which each child’s strengths, opinions, actions, and thoughts are valued. Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach language arts and social studies classes in Fifth Grade in the Upper School, including reading, writing, grammar, and early American history; knowledge of the science of reading and the workshop model for language arts is a plus
• Develop assessments, evaluate, and track student progress
• Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
• Maintain proactive communication with parents about student progress, including through parent-teacher conferences, report cards, and portfolio conferences
• Plan and lead advisory meetings with a group of 8-12 students, and partner with grade-level co-advisors for advisory curricula
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events outside the life of the classroom
• Chaperone field trips, including possible overnight trips
• Complete lunch, recess, and other duties as assigned
• Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and administrators to ensure each child’s success

Minimum Requirements:

• 3+ years teaching middle school language arts and/or social studies, preferably in an independent school setting
• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills
• Knowledge of current research and best practices in brain-based teaching and learning
• Experience with the Responsive Classroom or Developmental Designs approach and project-based curriculum and assessments are a plus
