Job Description:
The Blake School seeks a dynamic, creative and reflective sixth/seventh grade English teacher who is eager to help students read and write with rigor, insight and imagination. The ideal candidate will have experience fostering a diverse and supportive community committed to pluralism and a shared set of values that prepares students for purposeful lives as community and global citizens. Blake is particularly interested in candidates who will enrich the diversity of identity, lived experience and thinking that make a community strong and empower students to engage across differences.
The teacher will work closely with grade-level teams in sixth and seventh grade to design units, lessons and activities that develop foundational literacy and inquiry skills. Drawing from a writing workshop model, teachers focus writing instruction on the moves authors make to compose meaningful personal narratives, literary essays, nonfiction articles and persuasive arguments. Middle School English courses also include explicit instruction to develop contextual knowledge, support close reading, generate student-led discussions and make meaning through writing.
This is a full-time interim position to cover a parental leave. The position is not eligible for benefits. Since the leave will continue into the 2026-27 school year, the committee will consider candidates who are available for the fourth quarter of this school year as well as those who could start on March 30 and continue through Nov. 20:
March 30-June 5, 2026 (Salary Range: $15,011-$22,884, assuming 4-15 years of teaching with adjustments made outside of that range of experience)
March 30-Nov. 20, 2026 (Salary Range: $34,923-$53,241, assuming 4-15 years of teaching with adjustments made outside of that range of experience)
The committee will begin reviewing applications on Jan. 5. Blake will typically cover travel and lodging expenses for finalist candidates visiting from out of town.
